Internet Connection Focus on: Net Exchange.
Interested in what other people are saying about the Internet in its various manifestations? You'll want to check out "Net Exchange" in the Internet Connection. "What's your favorite World Wide Web site," "Talk about Internet news and topics," and "What do you think of AOL's Internet tools," link you to the Internet Connection's AOL Message Boards, while on the other side of the menu, selected newsgroups link you to the rest of the world. "Newsgroups about the Net" include "alt.best.of.internet," dedicated to republishing the "best" postings, "alt.life.internet," discussing the Internet as a lifestyle, "alt.culture.internet," the culture (or lack thereof) and people of the Internet, "alt.internet.media-coverage", and more. Also featured on Net Exchange are two mailing lists. WEBBEST is a list of "best" web sites, and McLuhan-List is a discussion of the late Marshall McLuhan's media theory.
Get to Net Exchange by using Keyword: Net Exchange, or from the Internet Connection main screen, choose "Internet Exchange".
Update to Tip of the Week :
FileGrabber (for both Windows and Mac) vastly simplifies the process of retrieving binary postings (programs, pictures, sounds, etc.) from newsgroups. Instead of having to manually download, assemble and decode such postings, FileGrabber automatically offers to do it all for you. FileGrabber can even display or play graphics and sound files. For more details on how FileGrabber works, go to the Newsgroups area (Keyword: Newsgroups), and read "Using Filegrabber" on the main menu. It's terrific! Be forewarned, however, that you must reset your "Parental Controls" to be able to download binary files. New AOL accounts automatically have this feature turned off and it must be turned on before you can use Filegrabber. For more information on Parental Controls, look under "Members" on your AOL software menu. ___________________________________

***General Tips for the Web***
Here are some general answers for some of the problems I've seen cropping up in this folder:
1. I'm having problems with my Mac 2.6 browser!
Answer: Check out "The MAC BROWSER" folder on this message board...it has many mac-specific tips to help you get started. :)
2. I'm having problems with my Windows 2.5 browser!
Answer: Check out "The WINDOWS BROWSER" folder on this message board...it has many Windows-specific tips to help you get started. :)
3. How can I locate a page about........?
Answer: AOL has a Keyword link to one of the finest search pages around, Webcrawler. To look for a place of interest, just go to Keyword: WEBCRAWLER and enter two or three key words in the text entry box, then click search. :D
4. How can I locate a friend's email address using the Web?
Answer: Try a Netfind site, such as http://www.nova.edu/Inter-Links/netfind.html to look up email addresses. Usually, though, the best way to find a person's address is to call them on the phone...there is NO global list of email addresses. :/
5. How can I find the latest/coolest/glitziest web pages around?
Answer: The Yahoo directory has a What's New and a What's Cool page, both of which are regularly updated. To get to Yahoo, use the URL http://www.yahoo.com as a Keyword.
6. How can I get more help with the Web?
Answer: AOL's Chat About The Web room is staffed from 8pm till 11pm daily, and you can get there via the Internet Connection main screen (Keyword: INTERNET) by clicking on the icon of the same name. Even during "off" hours, the room is usually a font of information. The FAQ button on the Internet Connection main screen leads to Frequently Asked Questions (and their answers) about all facets of AOL's Internet connectivity. Lastly, for more technical or platform-specific help, Keyword: CSLIVE leads to America Online's live Customer Service area.
